EastEuro Link hosted its Annual Central and East European Telecoms Conference on 29th and 30th January in Romania with participants and speakers from all over the region in attendance. Taking place in the Pullman World Trade Centre Hotel, the event was supported by a host of associate sponsors and media partners involved in the telecom sector.

Mr. Jan Larsson, Senior Strategy & Corporate Development Manager of Teliasonera International Carrier introduced the conference and chaired the event excellently throughout the 1st conference day.

The first speaker to take stand was Mr. Sirous Kavehercy, Market Development Director at Acision who gave very interesting presentation about New Opportunities in the Overly Saturated Telecoms Markets. This was followed by another most interesting speech by Mr. Levente Csenteri, Executive Director at Combridge who gave an overview on the opportunities in Romanian Telecom Market, highlighting the challenges and the answer to challenges market imposes. The next speaker to take stand was Mr. Gareth Price-Jones Director at Sonus Networks, Wireless Solution, who spoke about Migration of Mobile operators to 3rd Generation/4th Generation Services.

The panel to follow dynamic networking coffee break was focused on analysing convergence from different aspects.

Mr. Roland Belfin, Head of International Affairs at RTR spoke about Convergence and challenges for regulation pointing out that besides solving many smaller issues there was a need to discuss the future of regulation in a more radical way.

Mr. Tim Charity, Consultant, Wireless Broadband Consultancy, Motorola Networks Services then gave presentation on Migrating Services to 4G Wireless.

Following a lunch break where delegates took opportunity for additional networking. Mr. Matthieu de Parades, Technical Sales Engineer at Tekelec, France, spoke about “Evolving towards IP Signalling”. A significant contribution to the conference agenda was also given by Mr. Andrej Mihevc, Telecommunication Director at DARS d.d., Slovenia, who presented Wholesale vs. Business Retail model diversity.

A Case study from TeliaSonera International Carrer: Diversifying via various business models - followed, presented by Mr. Jan Larsson, Senior Strategy & Corporate Development Manager.

To conclude the first conference day, several most interesting presentations were given during the panel on Increasing Internet Economy and IPTV availability. Mr. Uwe-Dirk Richter, SE Manager Eastern Europe at Juniper Networks analyzed prospects for growth of IPTV. The speaker to follow was Mr. Alessandro Petazzi, Former Head of Media and IPTV at Fastweb who spoke about Service differentiation for IPTV providers. Mr. Leszek Bujak, Senior Business Development Manager at ASTRA CEE Sp. z o.o. then examined Satellite as an effective mean to overcome digital divide in different media and telecommunications areas. To conclude the first conference day Mr. Wandrille Pruvot, VP Sales and Marketing & Regional Director (Europe), explored Mobile Internet Communities.

After a highly informative day, the participants were then free to engage in additional networking opportunities at the cocktail reception.

Mr. Edward Mier-Jedrzejowicz, Chairman, TTcomm S.A., opened and successfully chaired the event on the second conference day. To begin the morning panel dedicated to Roles and Technologies of International Carriers and Networks, Mr. Ola Korsmo, Market Director at Telenor Global Services AS examined the changing role of an international carrier. The speaker to follow was Mr. Sorin Zorca, Regional Director Balkans at Tiscali International Network who presented IPv6 Services in Tiscali. To conclude this highly informative panel, Mr. Marco Matteoni, Head of Commercial and Development Department at Skylogic SPA, spoke about Broadband Communication Services via Satellite.

The next panel brought some insights into the Infrastructure of the CEE Telecoms Market. Mr. Edward Mier-Jedrzejowicz shared Experience from Poland and TT comm: Satellite services for Homogeneous and secure communications and Mr. Petru Fuiorea, CCO, Netcity Telecom S.A. presented the Bucharest subterranean associated infrastructure ‘Netcity’ as a driver for telecom market development.

Mr. Mier-Jedrzejowicz concluded the official conference programme, summarising the wide range of ideas and experiences that were heard at this unique international event. All the participants joined the lunch afterwards continuing the networking after the official conference closure.

The event brought together a number of influential players in Telecom industry to engage in numerous discussions and listen to some excellent insights into the field.
